9 Tips for Stress-Free Travel
Your leisure time is one of your most important, non-renewable assets, so when you travel, you want to make it as enjoyable as possible. We’ve gathered our top tips for stress-free travel below to help you make the most of your time away.
Use a Travel Advisor
It’s no surprise that this is our number one tip, but using a travel advisor is one of the easiest ways to avoid added stress. Did you know that when you Google “hotels in Paris”, there are over 400 MILLION results? Who has the time and energy to sift through all that? A knowledgable advisor will save you from feeling overwhelmed, working hand-in-hand with you to edit the world. During your trip, your advisor will serve as your advocate in the event of any hiccups, or simply answer any questions you may have. Plus, a well-connected advisor has on-the-ground contacts that will serve as your local resources, wherever you go.
Before you go, do a little research.
Spare yourself unpleasant surprises by always informing yourself of the following in your chosen destination(s):
- Weather
- Travel advisories (e.g., political situations, Covid-19 restrictions, etc.)
- Holidays (government and public)
Meet with your doctor about a month before you travel.
Give yourself peace of mind by getting checked out for a general bill of health, get any needed vaccinations, and fill all your prescriptions before you leave town.
Download your airline’s app to your mobile device(s).
Having your airline’s specific app on your smartphone, tablet, and/or Apple Watch enables you to easily check in for flights on the go, save your boarding passes and digital vaccination certificate, and access info relating to your flight. Here are links to several major airline apps:
- Air France
- Air New Zealand
- Alaska
- American
- ANA
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Delta
- Emirates
- Hawaiian
- JetBlue
- Lufthansa
- Qantas
- Southwest
- Turkish
- United
Make copies of your important documents.
This means your passport, driver’s license, credit cards, itinerary, etc. Print out one set of copies to put in your carryon and then store in your room safe, and email another set to yourself—just in case.
Consider travel insurance.
A travel insurance policy can cover a wide array of unforeseen circumstances, from emergency evacuation to baggage loss, crucial trip cancellation, and more—and your Avenue Two Travel advisor can offer expert advice on the best travel insurance for your trip’s needs.
Check to see if you already have travel insurance.
Some credit cards—such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Preferred, Ink Business Unlimited, and the Platinum Amex—offer comprehensive travel insurance with card membership. Other cards offer various/lesser forms of coverage. Take a look in your wallet and make sure you’re not already covered.
Save yourself time, money, and discomfort while traveling by always packing:
- One extra layer (e.g., a sweater, sweatshirt, wrap, etc.)
- A pair of comfy walking shoes, broken in prior to your trip
- Earplugs
- An eye mask
- Hand sanitizer
- Medicines/supplements you use often or every day
- An extra camera battery
- Sunscreen
That said, don’t over-pack.
The less you bring on your trip, the lighter the load you’ll have to schlep and the less luggage fees you’ll have to pay. To save space in your bag(s), roll your clothes and keep them organized with packing cubes (check out brands like Eagle Creek, Bentoko, Ebags, and Away). Toss in a large, empty large packing cube or Ziploc bag for laundry, and pack a foldable tote/ duffel to hold any purchases you make along the journey.
Bon voyage!
