To go or not to go?
The decision of when to travel again is a personal one. Some intrepid travelers booked a stay the minute hotels reopened. Others are biding their time. Whatever decision makes you most comfortable, your Avenue Two Travel advisor can help provide information to help you make an educated decision.
What to consider?
Before deciding on a destination it is a good idea to think about your level of comfort. Do you want a larger hotel with more amenities or smaller hotel with fewer rooms but possibly less space? Do you want to remain on property for all meals and activities or do you want to be close to outside dining options and sights? Each of these offer their own pros and cons and you will want to discuss safety policies for each with your travelling companions and your travel advisor.
Who will you travel with?
Many clients are travelling with their “pod”, that is, the group or family they have been sheltering in place with. The size of your travel party will be important in determining a location best suited to your needs. For larger groups, multiple bedroom suites or homes may be the most convenient. Traditional hotel rooms with connecting rooms can also be a solution for keeping the “pod” in close proximity.

What are hotels doing to ensure your safety?
Hotels have implemented new standards and policies for minimizing risk and increasing safety. This includes protocols like mandatory masks in public areas, increased time between guests checking into a room after the previous guest checks out, not selling every room to maintain distance between occupied rooms, contact free check in and out, and more.
Let’s talk Marriott International Hotel Brand
Marriott International hotel brand boasts 30 hotel chains and residence companies around the globe. As long-time experts in hospitality, Marriott has always been committed to keeping hotel associates, guests, and customers safe. With the COVID-19 pandemic, Marriott International has upped their game to ensure they stay true to that commitment. They recently teamed up with experts in the field of medicine and public health to develop their Global Cleanliness Council. This Council has worked to create over 200 cleaning protocols that cover every aspect of the guest journey.
While every hotel in the brand is different, guests can be rest-assured the following will be a focus at each and every property:
Deeper, More Frequent Cleaning – Marriott International will increase their level of cleaning as well as frequently disinfect any high-touch items like door handles and elevator buttons. In addition to the cleaning, hand sanitizer stations will be available through the hotels for guests’ use.
Safe Bedrooms – Guests should feel as safe in their rooms as they do in their own home. To ensure this, hotels will be doing deeper cleanings of rooms between stays, limiting the amount of time housekeeping spends in the rooms, removing any non-essential high-touch items that can’t be cleaned, and providing disinfecting wipes in each room.
Attainable Distance – The Marriott Bonvoy app will allow guests to do all sorts of things that used to require contact with people or items. With mobile check-ins, keys, dining, and requests, guests can use their own devices and avoid touching things like phones, menus, and counters. Beyond this, each hotel will ensure there is room to social distance. Whether that be by reducing the capacities of people per dining venue, conference room, etc. or by giving people plenty of room when waiting, guests can feel confident that they are safely distanced.
Planning for the Future– Marriott understands that we may be entering a new normal when it comes to hotels. To anticipate and prepare for the future, Marriott will be implementing more “grab and go” contactless food/beverage options and less buffets. There will also be new setups around food allowing for protective barriers between both guests and staff.
Guests should feel confident knowing Marriott International’s Commitment to Clean policy is being upheld at every property.
