As an only child, Morgan was born curious about other people and how they lived. This curiosity fueled her lifelong love of travel, which her parents fortunately share. The family set out on their first international trip (to England) when Morgan was 10 years old. Subsequent family vacations to France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and Mexico solidified their urge to roam.
A few years after college, where Morgan studied French and Spanish and spent a semester in Spain, she enrolled in culinary school with Le Cordon Bleu, where she met her husband. During this time, she traveled to Italy and learned about the production of balsamic vinegar, parmigiano-reggiano, prosciutto, and of course – wine. The wine seeped into her blood and heart as she travelled the world one glass at a time. Morgan spent 10 years working in the wine business at tasting rooms in the Willamette Valley and retail shops, before eventually owning her own savory pie and wine shop in Portland, Oregon. She earned an Advanced Certificate from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) along the way.
Now living in Richmond, VA, with her husband and teenage daughter (who is also an only child with wanderlust), Morgan’s love of travel has only grown. While wine regions are always on her must-see list (most recently satiated with trips to Bordeaux and Napa Valley), she’s begun to explore outside the European continent in Colombia and the Caribbean. Morgan says that the more she travels, the more her wanderlust grows. Fortunately, time has not quelled her curiosity, and helping other people learn about the world and its culinary complexities is as rewarding now as ever.
