Are you as surprised as I am when holiday décor goes on sale in October? I am definitely not a plan-in-advance holiday shopper. But one area you should not delay planning is travel over the holidays. Most travelers who get away during the festive season shop early, waaaay early. It is not surprising to find limited availably at beach destinations, Europe and ski resorts as early as March.
Luckily for me, I call one of my favorite festive destinations home, Arizona, and a couple years ago we took a last minute stay-cation to the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess.
It was a festive paradise! The entire property was covered in lights and decorations (and the property is huge). My daughter, who was one at the time, “ooo’d” and “aaah’d” as we discovered new brightly lit sights around every turn. My nieces rode the Christmas Express train and even went ice skating (yes, in the desert!).
We ate dinner and had drinks at the enormous festively decorated outdoor bar while the kiddos were entertained by a giant Christmas tree music and light show. There was even a petting zoo. While husband put kiddo to sleep, I snuck into the gorgeous spa for some alone R&R time.
This year, I hear there is even more at the Princess: a Build-a-Bear workshop and Copper Canyon Light Show.
Haven’t even thought about shopping yet? Forget it! Take the family to a grand holiday celebration at the Fairmont. The memories will last longer than any store-bought gift, I promise!
